1. Multimedia
The whole point of multi-media is to engage the interest of prospective customers, and to project an image of who you are, a positive impression that creates a good feeling, that creates an atmosphere that motivates people to want to do business with you. Just as you set the scene in your office or storefront to create a buying atmosphere, you need to create that presence on your web site.
The good news is that it’s much less expensive to create that atmosphere on the web than on TV or in physical reality, and anyone can get there with a click. Your web site is your physical company virtually represented in cyberspace.
More than ever we live in a media generation. People expect that a viable business is going to have good media. We all distrust a cheesy ad. When you provide good media it shows that you care enough to communicate to people in an effective, fun way. People have enough work in their lives. If they can have fun while working, fun on your site, be entertained… they will have a good feeling about your business- a non-verbal message has formed in them about you. They are making subconscious decisions about you, and these are the most powerful impressions you can make.
We are primarily emotional beings. We make decisions primarily based on emotion. A site that only appeals to a person’s intellect will miss the mark, a mark that with a little thought and imagination would have succeeded in making a lasting impression.
Methods:
- Flash
- Home page photo presentation
- Demos
- Buttons/ Navigation
- Intros
- Product views
- Video
- Fast delivery is now available using streaming download
- If you have it... use it on the web! You've already paid for it. Use it.
- High-end TV look at a low-end price. Low resolution is fine here! (You could use a camcorder!)
- It should be short and to the point.
- Personal greeting, product demos, promos, ads
- Can be repurposed for CD/DVD promo materials
- Audio
- Voice message – use professional voice talent, or not
- Music – 30 sec minimum loops, or stream whole track
- Always provide an “off” right from the start. Controls to pick another track. Give them control. It’s their site!
- Podcasts – great way to offer service, stay in touch, and look trendy
- Photos and Graphics
- Use professional photos and graphics (buy online) that portray your image and message well.
- Photoshop your own photos to make them look good
- Size correctly – Most common mistake on the web - "pixellated" graphics (Please don’t mess up your logo and company name!)
- Product Views
- Give larger views and plenty of them (Help the prospect to “feel” your product.)
- 3D views: static or 360
- Demos
Again, these can be very economical solutions. Even a simple “slide show” communicates that you are a progressive company. Don’t miss the opportunity to really connect with your prospective customers and clients. Capitalize on the amazing innovations that are now available to use. Separate yourself from the static site crowd. Show people that you care enough to communicate well.
