Is Your Web Site Hurting You?       BACK

There are several ways that your web site can be hurting you:

First, the way it looks. In today’s marketplace people expect a good business to have a good looking web site. Just as if they were to drive up to a run down establishment, when they come to a run down looking web site they automatically believe that something is amiss, that the business is not all that it should be. Almost subconsciously they find themselves wanting to “turn their car around” and go someplace else, and with the web that is all too easy. Now, if they were to walk inside they may find a fully capable and very useful business, but now they’ll never know.

Which brings me to number two, the inside! Is your web site really communicating who you are and why you’re special, and why someone should do business with you as opposed to all the others out there? Does the content really tell your story and engage the prospect. On the web, if they’re bored, they’ll run.

Number three, your site has to be user friendly. People should be able to find what they want easily and be able to interact with you. Many sites seem to be saying, “If you can’t figure it out, tough. We have better things to do than make our interface easy.” If they are confused they’ll run.

Now, maybe you have an okay web site. Okay. But number four may be hurting you big time.  You must look up to date. You must look like you are paying attention to what’s in now. If your site looks and acts like an old site people will think that you are out of touch. They will subconsciously think that your business practices are out of date, just as if you were to show up to a business meeting in a very nice trench coat and while winged shoes. It’s a silent, final thing, a person’s subconscious – it makes decisions without the conscious mind even knowing it. It decides if a company is worth it by a number of cues that you need to be aware of.
